The storm is tracking eastward, with rain bands currently heaviest over Jurong, Boon Lay, Tuas and Pioneer. Gusty winds are accompanying the thunderstorm, so do expect sudden strong gusts especially in open areas.

If you are in the affected areas or heading out, seek shelter immediately and stay indoors until the storm passes. The heaviest downpours can develop rapidly and visibility may drop sharply in torrential rain.

Stay safe in thunderstorms

  • Seek shelter indoors immediately - do not wait for rain to start, lightning can strike beforehand
  • Avoid open areas, tall trees and metal structures during thunderstorms
  • Unplug sensitive electrical appliances to protect against lightning surges
  • Avoid low-lying areas prone to flash floods, especially during torrential downpours
  • Slow down if you are driving and turn on your headlights - visibility drops sharply in heavy rain
  • Check the 2-hour nowcast for the short-term rain outlook
