About Tides in Singapore
Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the gravitational forces of the Moon and Sun, combined with Earth's rotation.
Singapore experiences semi-diurnal tides - typically two high tides and two low tides each day. Tide heights are measured in metres above the Chart Datum, which is the lowest water level recorded over an 18-year period.
Factors affecting tides:
- Moon phase (Spring tides during full/new moon)
- Neap tides (during first/last quarter moon)
- Atmospheric pressure
- Wind conditions
