Singapore weather warnings, explained

The usual set

• Heavy rain warning: significant rainfall expected that can flood low-lying roads and disrupt travel.
• Thunderstorm warning: lightning and gusty winds with the rain. Take the lightning rules seriously, not just the rain.
• Flood warning or flood alert: water is rising or already out of bank in a named area. Do not drive into it.
• Wind / squall: attached to Sumatra squalls and some monsoon surges. Secure objects, pause work at height.
• Haze / air quality advisory: health advice tied to PSI bands, not a rain product.

How this site shows them

We republish active warnings scraped from official feeds into the warnings page and a banner on the home, radar and forecast pages. Flood alerts from the data.gov.sg flood-alert API are stored as flood_alert rows and listed on the floods page.

A cancelled or expired alert is marked inactive. If the banner is gone, the official feed no longer lists it as live. Always defer to NEA, PUB and SCDF on the ground.

What to do in the first five minutes

• Open the 50 km radar and see if the cell is moving or sitting.
• If you are outdoors and thunder is audible, get inside. Do not wait for the rain to start.
• If a flood alert names your road, change your route. Depth is hard to judge from a car.
